DSCF1404D’eagraigh CAIRDE Teo turas speisialta ar na mallaibh do theaghlaigh atá ag tógáil a gcuid páistí trí Ghaeilge. Chaith na Gaeilgeoirí lá iontach ag bualadh leis na hainmhithe uilig ag Feirm Spraoi Clementsmount taobh amuigh de Chromghlinn agus thug said cuairt ar Ionad Gailf Chraiceáilte Junction Jacks’ i mbaile Aontroma.

Bhain na páistí an-sult ar fad as an fheirm spraoi agus chuir a dtreoraí Marguerite roinnt de na sícíní óga, lachain óga agus toirtís in aithne do na páistí. Bhí deis ag na Gaeil óga as Ard Mhacha bualadh leis na hainmhithe beaga i scioból na bpeataí; le puisíní, madadh, coiníní, muca guine, gráinneog agus meannán gabhair. Fuair na páistí turais thart ar an fheirm fosta ar chapaillíní agus ar threan beag na feirme, agus bhain siad sult as na go karts, as an áit shúgartha agus as anchlais ghainimh. I ndiaidh lóin, thug an dream as Ard Mhacha cuairt ar Ionad Gailf Chraiceáilte Junction Jack atá lonnaithe ag an lárionad siopadóireachta Junction One i mbaile Aontroma. Bhí craic den scoth ag na teaghlaigh go léir ag an chúrsa a bhfuil téama foghlaí mara ann agus bhí iomaíocht ghéar ann i measc na bpáistí uilig agus a dtuismitheoirí.

DSCF1418Eagraíodh an turas le deis a thabhairt do na páistí agus do na daoine óga an Ghaeilge a úsáid taobh amuigh den scoil i dtimpilleacht spraíúil sultmhar agus thug idir pháistí agus dhaoine fásta ardmholadh. Agus é ag caint ar an turas, dúirt Seán Ó Maoilsté, oifigeach forbartha Gaeilge le CAIRDE Teo, “Tá sé barrthábhachtach go mbíonn deis ag na páistí an Ghaeilge a úsáid taobh amuigh den seomra ranga, nó bíonn an teanga níos ábhartha agus nadúrtha dóibh. Bhain na páistí an-sult as an fheirm agus as an ghalf craiceáilte agus bhí na tuismitheoirí iontach tógtha leis chomh maith. De thairbhe gur eagraigh CAIRDE Teo an turas trí Ghaeilge, déanann na páistí nasc idir an Ghaeilge agus imeachtaí spraíúla, agus chan leis an earnáil oideachais amháin.

Dúirt sé leis, “Faigheann páistí Gaelscoile buntáistí breise ón oideachas dátheangach cheana féin, ach leis na himeachtaí breise a chuireann CAIRDE Teo ar fáil, spreagtar na páistí labhairt lena chéile ina bpríomhtheanga agus spreagtar tuismitheoirí bheith níos gníomhaí ag tacú le tógáil dhátheangach.” Chomh maith le campa samhraidh Gaeilge a mbíonn an-rath air, eagraíonn CAIRDE Teo roinnt mhaith gníomhaíochtaí agus turas i rith na bliana le cuidiú le tuismitheoirí in Ard Mhacha an Ghaeilge a thabhairt isteach in achan ghné de shaol a bpáistí. DSCF1461A number of local Irish speaking families joined Armagh community development organisation CAIRDE Teo recently on a special end-of-summer Irish language family trip. The Armagh Gaeilgeoirí spent a great day, meeting all of the animals at Clementsmount Fun Farm near Crumlin and rounded off the trip with a visit to Junction Jacks’ Crazy Golf Centre in Antrim town.

The fun farm proved a very popular attraction for all of the children and their guide Marguerite introduced them to a number of chicks and ducklings and a tortoise, which the children couldn’t wait to hold for themselves. They also got to pet a number of the smaller animals in the petting barn, including the farm’s kittens and dog, and a number of baby rabbits, guinea pigs, a hedgehog and even a kid goat. The young Gaeilgeoirí also took advantage of pony rides and a tour of the farm on the barrel train, as well as enjoying the pedal go karts, soft play indoor barn, trim trail and sand pit. After lunch, the Armagh families visited Junction Jacks’ Crazy Golf which is located at the Junction One Outlet in Antrim town. The pirate-themed mini-golf course proved to be great fun and brought out a competitive streak in all of the families.

DSCF1425The trip was organised to give the children and young people an opportunity to use their Irish outside of school in a fun and enjoyable environment and it proved a big success with both children and parents alike. Seán Ó Maoilsté, Irish language development officer with CAIRDE Teo spoke about the trip, saying “It is vital that the children have the opportunity to use their Irish outside of the classroom, as the language becomes more relevant to them. All of the children enjoyed the farm and the crazy golf immensely and the parents were also impressed. The fact that CAIRDE Teo was able to facilitate this trip through the medium of Irish helped the children and young people to associate the language to fun activities, and not just the education sector.

He added, “Children attending Irish medium schools already have the additional benefits of a bilingual education, but activities such as this that are provided by CAIRDE Teo encourage the children to interact with each other using their main language and it also encourages parents to become more actively involved in supporting a bilingual upbringing.” As well as a very successful Irish language summer camp, CAIRDE Teo organises many activities and outings throughout the year to help parents in Armagh to fully immerse their children in an Irish language atmosphere.
