The recent explosion of interest in Irish medium education in Armagh City has put enormous pressure on the infrastructure and resources currently available to service demand for places in Irish language nurseries and pre-school facilities. The arrival of Armagh’s third Irish language nursery school, Naíscoil na Caille, in September 2017 has gone some way to easing the shortage of places in the sector.
However, with over 500 children in Armagh City alone now enrolled in Irish medium schools, policy makers and community development teams are currently working on short to medium term plans to address the lack of ancillary services associated with the sector including pre-school services, day-care places, after-schools clubs, crèche facilities, etc.
Further to this, the inaugural planning meeting for the establishment of a full-time Irish Language Childcare Facility in the new Aonach Mhacha cultúrlann will take place in Armagh City Hotel at 4.30pm Thursday 1st February 2018.
Organisers of the meeting, CAIRDE Teo, are seeking interest from individuals and groups with experience in the field of childcare and from others who would be interested in gaining experience and qualifications in the field. The organisers anticipate that the new facility will provide jobs for up to six Irish speakers when fully functional in 2018.
If you, or someone you know are interested in finding out more or if you would like to play a contributory role in the formation of this exciting new social enterprise, please come along to the meeting in the City Hotel this Thursday at 4.30pm.
